Lefara Community Demands Answers Over Tivani Mine Employment
LEFARA VILLAGE – Members of the Lefara community in Greater Tzaneen have gathered at the Tivani Mine, demanding answers over the recruitment and employment process at the chrome mining operation.
Community members say residents from Lefara and neighbouring Zanghoma villages have been left out of employment opportunities, despite the communities being located near the mining operation.
“None of the workers are from Lefara, despite being the most affected community,” a community leader said.
According to community members, the chrome mining operation began on 1 November 2025. They allege, however, that local residents have yet to benefit meaningfully from jobs created by the mine.
The community is calling for greater transparency on how workers were recruited and wants mine management and other relevant stakeholders to engage with residents on local employment opportunities.
Residents say unemployment remains a major challenge in Lefara and surrounding villages, increasing frustration over what they describe as a lack of opportunities linked to the mining operation.
The community is seeking clarity on the recruitment process, the criteria used to select workers and measures that could ensure residents from affected communities are considered for available positions.
At the time of publication, the mine’s management had not publicly responded to the allegations.
