BREAKING NEWS: Ex-Boyfriend Fatally Shot After Alleged Knife Attack in Blackburn
A man was shot and killed during an alleged self-defence incident at an informal settlement in Blackburn, KwaZulu-Natal, in the early hours of Saturday.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the deceased reportedly arrived at his former girlfriend’s rented home and began banging on the door. An argument allegedly ensued after he demanded the return of items he claimed to have purchased during their previous relationship.
The woman’s current boyfriend told responders that the situation escalated when the former partner allegedly produced an Okapi knife and attempted to stab him. Fearing for his life, he said he retrieved his licensed firearm and fired a single shot in self-defence.
The man collapsed outside the residence and was declared dead at the scene.
Police recovered an Okapi knife and a spent cartridge casing. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has opened an investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
The allegations made by those involved form part of the ongoing police investigation, and no findings have yet been made by a court.
