Over 100 Suspected Illegal Miners Arrested in Randfontein Crackdown
Randfontein, Gauteng – More than 100 suspected illegal miners have been arrested during a multi-agency law enforcement operation targeting illegal mining activities in the West Rand.
The operation, conducted under Operation Prosper, involved law enforcement officers, members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), and mine security teams. Authorities targeted the Losberg Kloof Mine area, where illegal mining syndicates have been operating.
Police said the operation resulted in the arrest of more than 100 suspects on illegal mining-related offences. Illegal mining equipment and other items linked to the operation were also recovered. Investigations are continuing as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle organised criminal networks involved in illegal mining.
