Thohoyandou Residents to Stage Protest March Over Crime, Illegal Immigration, Drugs, and Expired Food Concerns
THOHOYANDOU – Residents are expected to take to the streets on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, in a planned protest march aimed at highlighting concerns over crime, illegal immigration, drug-related activities, and the alleged sale of expired food products.
According to organisers, participants will assemble at the Thohoyandou Bus Rank from 08:00 before proceeding to the Thulamela Local Municipality offices, where they intend to submit their grievances to local authorities.
The organisers say the march seeks to draw attention to several issues they believe require urgent intervention, including:
Illegal immigration;
The alleged sale of expired food products;
Drug-related activities and substance abuse; and
Rising levels of crime within local communities.
The planned demonstration follows a series of similar community-led protests across parts of Limpopo, where residents have called for stronger law enforcement, improved public safety, and stricter enforcement of immigration and consumer protection laws.
Law enforcement agencies are expected to monitor the march to ensure it is conducted peacefully and in accordance with the law. Motorists and commuters are advised to anticipate temporary traffic disruptions along the planned route during the course of the demonstration.
At the time of publication, neither the Thulamela Local Municipality nor law enforcement authorities had issued an official response to the planned march or the concerns raised by organisers.
