52-YEAR-OLD MAN ARRESTED WITH SUSPECTED HEROIN WORTH MORE THAN R2 MILLION AT OR TAMBO
KEMPTON PARK – A 52-year-old South African man has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after police seized suspected heroin worth more than R2 million during an intelligence-led operation.
The man was arrested by the South African Police Service (SAPS), with assistance from the Border Management Authority (BMA), on Sunday, 20 September 2026.
According to police, the suspect had just arrived on a flight from Accra, Ghana, when he was intercepted.
A search of his luggage allegedly uncovered bullet-shaped objects and blocks containing substances suspected to be heroin. The drugs have an estimated street value of more than R2 million.
SAPS said the latest arrest brings the number of suspected drug mules arrested at OR Tambo International Airport to three in the past three weeks.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court later this week on drug-trafficking-related charges.
Investigations are continuing as police work to establish the wider network allegedly involved in the transportation of the drugs.
