Bail Denied for Two Accused in Zolani Tete Murder Case
The Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court has denied bail to Uzuzole Goqwana and Sinebhongo Qase, who are accused of murdering former boxing champion Zolani Tete.
Magistrate Anton Pretorius ruled that the two accused had failed to demonstrate exceptional circumstances required for bail in a Schedule 6 offence.
The court also considered Goqwana’s medical needs, finding that his condition could be managed while he is held at St Albans Correctional Facility.
The State argued that its case against the accused was strong, pointing to a ballistic report that allegedly links firearms recovered from suspected hitmen to bullets found at the murder scene.
Following the bail ruling, the matter was remanded to 13 October, when the case is expected to return to court.
Tete, a former world boxing champion, was killed in the Eastern Cape, with the circumstances surrounding his death forming the basis of the ongoing criminal investigation and prosecution.
