Snake Breeder Denzel Ncube Loses Reptiles in Devastating Fire
VLEIFONTEIN — Twenty-six-year-old snake breeder Denzel Ncube, from Vleifontein, has been left devastated after a fire destroyed the place where he kept and cared for his reptiles.
Ncube has been passionate about snakes and other reptiles since he was just two years old. Over the years, he has rescued and released numerous snakes, helping relocate them to suitable natural habitats while keeping others under his care.
His passion began with a dream of educating people about snakes and bringing them closer to these often-feared creatures. Among the snakes he kept were cobras, black mambas and several other species, attracting visitors from nearby communities and even from other countries who wanted to see the reptiles.
Whenever snakes were found in residential areas, Ncube would often be called to collect them. He would safely remove them and take them to places where they could live safely in the wild, while some remained in his care.
However, tragedy struck on 8 August 2026, when the area where he kept his reptiles was engulfed by fire. The blaze destroyed the cages and killed the snakes and other reptiles that had been housed there.
The damage did not end with the fire. According to those close to the situation, people returned to the site and further damaged some of the remaining cages and structures. Even areas that had not been affected by the fire were reportedly broken apart.
Today, Ncube is left with almost nothing from what had become a major part of his life and passion.
The young snake breeder has suffered a heartbreaking loss, not only of animals he cared for, but also of years of dedication to rescuing, protecting and educating people about reptiles.
A young man who dedicated much of his life to snakes has now been left with an empty reptile sanctuary — a devastating loss for a 26-year-old whose passion began in childhood. 💔🐍🦎
