NEWS: Basotho National Party Leader Calls for Mass Return of Lesotho Nationals from South Africa
Maseru, Lesotho – Basotho National Party (BNP) leader Machesetsa Mofomobe has claimed that between 20,000 and 30,000 Lesotho nationals have been deported from South Africa as authorities continue to crack down on undocumented migrants.
Mofomobe said that if Lesotho citizens are being forced to leave South Africa, then all South African citizens living in Lesotho should also return to South Africa. He further alleged that some members of Lesotho’s Parliament hold South African identity documents, arguing that they should also go back to South Africa because they are “not wanted” in Lesotho.
His remarks come amid ongoing deportations of undocumented migrants from South Africa. Reports indicate that thousands of Basotho have been affected, with many returning to Lesotho after being found without valid immigration documents.
The comments are likely to spark debate over immigration, cross-border relations, and the movement of people between the two neighboring countries.
