A Zimbabwean national has appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court following the discovery of illicit cigarettes with an estimated value of R35,000 during a police operation in Limpopo.
The arrest was made during an intelligence-driven operation targeting the illegal tobacco trade. Police allegedly uncovered the illicit cigarettes and seized them as part of ongoing efforts to combat the distribution and sale of illegal tobacco products in the province.
The accused appeared before the court to face charges related to the alleged possession of illicit cigarettes. The matter was postponed for further legal proceedings while investigations continue.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on illicit trade, warning that the illegal tobacco market deprives the country of revenue and undermines legitimate businesses.
