ANC Faces Asset Attachment Threat Over R880,000 Bidvest Debt
The African National Congress (ANC) faces the prospect of having assets attached and sold to recover an outstanding debt of R880,359.68 after the Johannesburg High Court granted default judgment in favour of Bidvest Services.
The judgment relates to unpaid cleaning, hygiene and pest-control services provided by Bidvest at the ANCβs Luthuli House headquarters between May 2025 and January 2026.
In addition to the principal debt, the amount is subject to interest from 12 February 2026, as well as legal costs arising from the matter.
The default judgment gives Bidvest a legal basis to pursue enforcement should the debt remain unpaid. Depending on the enforcement process, this could ultimately result in qualifying ANC assets being attached and sold to satisfy the judgment debt.
However, no ANC assets have been attached or sold as a result of this judgment at this stage.
The matter highlights the potential financial consequences facing the governing party as creditors seek to recover outstanding payments through the courts.
The ANCβs financial position and its ability to settle the judgment will determine whether Bidvest proceeds with further enforcement measures.
